Tourist Train

Frigiliana Tourist Train There are Tourist Trains (variously known as the Wally Trolley, Noddy Train and other nicknames) in a number of municipalities in Andalucia, as well as in the rest of Spain, and there is one in Frigiliana.

The Tourist Train starts (and finishes) near El Ingenio and takes you on a gentle, relaxing sightseeing tour of the town, a great and fun way to get your bearings.

Hiking and Walking

Rio Higuerón

The rio Higuerón passes through the town of Frigiliana and it is an excellent place for a wander. To the right of El Ingenio is a steep (and I mean steep), winding road down to the river.

Plenty of magnificent scenery, flora and fauna and there is even a picnic area, complete with barbecues, along the way. Care should always be taken when using barbecues and it must also be borne in mind that fires, of any description, are not permitted in park areas in Andalucia between (generally) June 15th and October 15th each year due to safety concerns. Penalties for violations can be very severe.

Retail Therapy

TapasTapas is not only an alternative to the regular lunch but also a very social occasion, and going on a ‘Tapas Run’ or ‘Tapas Trail’, as they are known, is a great way to spend a few hours while sampling the local cuisine.

The best idea is to have one drink and a tapa at each location and for each person to select a different tapa, that way you get to sample a wide variety of local dishes.

Nearest Beaches

Burriana beach, NerjaThe nearest beaches to Frigiliana are in Nerja, about 8 kilometres from the town. By bus it’s a 15 minute journey, by car about ten minutes.

It is also a very pleasant walk, downhill most of the way, either following the road or the riverbed. During the summer, particularly, a bottle of water is an essential accessory.

Ferrara Playa, Torrox CostaAfter Nerja it would be Torrox Costa, a further 9 kilometres down the coast, with the impressive Ferrara Playa and promenade.

There excellent facilities, including water sports, as well as numerous very good bars, restaurants and beach chiringuitos.
