La Fuente Vieja was constructed in the XVII Century by Iñigo Manrique de Lara, the fifth Lord of Frigiliana and the fountain bears his coat of arms.

It was originally designed to provide a water supply for both the population of the town and also for the livestock.

The fountain can be found in Plaza de la Fuente Vieja, a turning off calle Chorruelo.

The square has a nice ceramic plaque showing a man waiting patiently for a mule to finish drinking at the fountain. Well, that’s how I see it, anyway!
