The victim, 50 year old Agustin, who was born in Madrid but had been in Frigiliana for the past decade, was apparently working in the fields when a local German resident, initials M.G.B. and known locally as ‘Zapatones’, arrived and began taking farming tools for harvesting olives.

An argument broke out and this developed into a fight with Agustin being badly beaten. His partner, a German woman, took him to the Health Centre in Nerja and he was then rushed to the Hospital Comarcal in Vélez-Málaga and then from there, due to the severity of his injuries, to the Carlos Haya hospital in Málaga.

He was suffering serious internal bleeding and spent two days in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit but died from his wounds on Saturday afternoon.

Upon hearing that Agustin was hospitalised, M.G.B. turned himself in to the Guardia Civil in Nerja and was promptly arrested on suspicion of causing injuries leading to death, although no official complaint had been made.

‘Zapatones’, divorced and with two children, is well known in Frigiliana, living in a camper van on the outskirts of the town. He has previously been involved in ‘discussions’ with other residents about the theft of farming implements and was previously denounced for the theft of a vehicle for the alleged purpose of stealing fruit and selling it illegally.

M.G.B. has been handed over to the Court in Torrox.

The award is called ‘El Bastianazo’ in honor of local patron saint, San Sebastian, and the draw will take place on January 20th 2012.

She was taken by helicopter to hospital in Vélez-Málaga.

Search teams are heading out from the Hotel Bajamar on a daily basis to cover different areas in Nerja, Maro and Frigiliana. If anyone can spare even just a little time to help with the searches this would be fantastic.

Tracing the movements of Mary-Anne since she arrived in Nerja could be vital in finding her or at least narrowing down the search area. Grab/print a copy of the photo of Mary-Anne and ask among your friends, workmates and in local bars if anyone can remember seeing her, it could jog a memory.

Check any snaps you have taken, get friends or visitors to check their holiday pictures to see if, by chance, Mary-Anne appears in any of them. It could help find her.

Since Friday 17 June 2011, Dutch tourist Mary-Anne Goossens is missing. Mary-Anne left on Tuesday 14 June for a 10-day holiday-trip to Malaga (Spain). Last contact with Mary-Anne was Thursday night (16 June) with her children by text message. Mary-Anne checked into hotel Bajamar in Nerja on Thursday 16 June in the afternoon. Her credit and debit cards have been last used on that day.

She spent the night in the hotel Thursday night. Friday morning 17 June she went to the nearby village of Frigiliana. In this village she has been last seen in a store at around 13.00 hours in the afternoon, since that time there has been no sign of Mary-Anne. As of Friday 17 June she has not slept in the hotel. Friday 24 June should have been her return flight to The Netherlands. Unfortunately Mary-Anne was not on the plane.

The last contact with Mary-Anne was Thursday night (June 16th) when she sent a text message to her children.

Thursday was also the last time her credit card and debit card were used. The hotel room is prepaid until Thursday, June 22nd and her luggage is still in her hotel room. The bed, however, has not been used for days.

Mary-Anne left Holland in good mental and physical state and her family is deeply concerned since she is very keen on keeping contact on a daily basis. All official agencies in Spain and Holland have been notified.
